Subject: Please DON'T Feed the Cats!

Lately we've noticed a lot of canned cat food and table scraps at feeding stations and random places around campus. The well-intentioned folks who are doing this are not helping the cats; in fact, they may be hurting them by attracting dangerous dogs (as well as skunks and possums). Following best practices for maintaining cat colonies, For Paws doesn't leave food out for more than 30 minutes, we don't leave food out overnight, and we don't feed outside of our established locations. Please help spread the word: Friends don't let friends feed cats irresponsibly. Ringo, Marty, and the other campus cats will have safer lives. Thank you.

Subject: RIP Lynx

Sadly, we've lost yet another cat. Lynx had been a campus cat since May, 2010, and was a goofy but appealing presence. He avoided humans but was great friends with Willie, another feral. Lynx had visible bite wounds, so we believe this is another case of DBD (death by dog). Last night's camera playback shows the same dogs that have been on campus other nights when cats were killed.
Yes, we're sad… and mad, but all we can do is channel those feelings into the will and energy to feed, fix, and foster those cats who need our help. Thanks for your support.

Subject: Going Forward

Despite our recent cat deaths, For Paws moves forward. We continue fixing neighborhood cats, such as Danger, one (formerly) tough tom. And we have foster kittens! Freddie and Flossie will soon be seeking for permanent homes; please spread the word about these adorable siblings. (Bonus points: Who are Freddie and Flossie named for?)
Ten years ago today, For Paws fixed its first cat; Danger was our 851st success story. We have found forever homes for 173 cats and kittens; Freddie and Flossie are next. Thank you for a decade of support.

Subject: Buckie

Buckie, the mini-Maine Coon cat, has vanished. A campus resident since 2007, Buckie lived at the front of campus and was last seen Easter weekend. Since we didn't find her remains, and since she was friendly, maybe someone took her home. We'll never know. What I do know is that Buckie had a lot of friends and admirers, like the Chaminade Hall RA who contacted me to ask about “Greggers,” the students' name for Buckie. Whatever name she went by, we will miss her.
Through this Oyster Bake weekend, please say a little prayer to St. Francis for the safety of our cats—and all creatures great and small. Thanks for your support.

Subject: Foster Kittens Update

Who can NOT love a kitten? Even Amos, the world's grumpiest feline, has fallen for foster kitten Molly. Molly has a forever home to go to, but siblings Flossie and Freddie are seeking theirs. Please spread the word. Thanks for your support.

Subject: Present and Accounted For

Finally, the last straggler (LJ) has showed up after the Oyster Bake, and the Blume colony is complete. Also, I received word from Chief Ott that one of his officers took into custody three of the four dogs reported in the Pecan Grove around 1am. A big thanks to our police and thanks for your support.
