Subject: No, That's Not a Cat in the Tree

Yes, that's an owl in the tree by Java City and no, I don't think she can haul off any of our cats for lunch.

Subject: Spay Day

Hello. February is National Prevent a Litter Month, and the last Tuesday of the month is designated as Spay Day. To learn more about this special day, click this site:

    Spay Day

For Paws has been celebrating Spay Day all month long by providing free spay/neuter surgeries to neighborhood cats such as Siam and Domino. Come to think of it, we're always celebrating Spay Day! Thanks for your support.

Subject: Bingo & Louie Update (St. Louis Hall Kittens)

Hello. A few weeks ago, Bingo got a bad bite in his back knee joint; if infection had spread into the joint, he could have lost his leg. Fortunately, we were able to get him to the vet for high-powered antibiotics. Bingo was such a wild boy that he had to be sedated before the vet could examine him--part of that behavior may have been pain-induced.
However, after two weeks of TLC with Shirley Martyn, Bingo's personality changed! We believe he is tame enough to be adopted. Bingo is about 10 months old, neutered, vaccinated, litter-box literate, playful, and self-sufficient. He really needs a home!
Louie is definitely warming up to people; with patience and love, he could become a good pet like his brother Sunny, a model house cat. If anyone is interested in either (or both) of these young cats, please let us know. While we enjoy seeing the cats around campus, it's really satisfying when we can place them in good homes.
Thanks, as always, for your support.

Subject: The Day After Valentine's

On our Sunday trapping trip through the neighborhood, Nettie and I encountered this little female being seriously romanced by four Romeos. (Feline Fact: A female cat can be impregnated by more than one tom, thus giving birth to a litter of kittens with multiple father--all deadbeat dads.)
We pursued Georgette and her suitors from house to house for a block, hauling traps and knocking on doors to alert neighbors as to why we were in their yards. (People were surprised but supportive.) Fortunately, we were able to get Georgette trapped and spayed before any kittens were born. We returned her to the neighborhood this morning; not a tomcat was in sight.
One cat spayed; many births prevented. One cat at a time does make a difference. Thanks for your support.

Subject: Happy Valentine's Day

Sunny (former St. Louis Hall kitten) sends Valentine's greetings after recovering from a viral infection (cat flu). He's doing great, and as a result of all the folks who worked with him over the last couple of months, he's a real sweetheart. Thanks for your support.

Subject: The Big Chill

Good morning. I'm happy to report that the campus cats survived the recent arctic blast--probably the longest period of below freezing weather we've had since the program began eight years ago. As you can see in the second picture, our dedicated student, staff, and faculty volunteers faced slippery conditions getting to the feeding station, but the cats were fed every day. Thanks for your support in all seasons.
