SNIPSA's Big Fix
Hello. Attached is a PowerPoint show of the Big Fix event. The Lucios and I have volunteered for many events over the years, but this was the best ever! A number of St. Mary's students were among the volunteers, and at least four St. Mary's staff members got their dogs fixed.
We met a Petsmart adoption coordinator who was able to wrangle a slot on Sunday for Ashes, our latest rescue. Ashes was adopted within three hours. What a great weekend for animals and the people who love them!

Subject: Meet Ashes

Hello. This soulful-eyed male kitten was befriended by a trio of students at the softball field Wednesday night. Thursday morning Ashes got the full treatment at Blue Cross Pet Clinic and is now neutered, vaccinated, ear-tipped, and microchipped. (That's two neuters this week.)
Ashes is about 7 months old and very friendly; he's evidently been around people but has been on his own for awhile, as he is slightly underweight at 5.5 pounds. With adequate meals, he'll fill out nicely. Since we don't have any adoption events lined up, we'll release Ashes on campus. Unless, of course, someone is looking for a lap-sitting, solid gray kitten. Please spread the word. Thanks for your support.

Big Fix
SNIPSA (Spay-Neuter-Inject-Protect of San Antonio) is offering a FREE spay/neuter clinic for dogs and cats at Holy Rosary Church. Residents of the 78228 zip code are eligible to bring their animals to this event. The all-day clinic will be held January 23 (Saturday). To register an animal for surgery, please call 237-9400.
Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, e.g., checking in/registering animals, moving animals to kennels and prep room, waking up/discharging animals, cleaning up, etc. Bilingual volunteers are especially welcome. To volunteer, call 867-SNIP.
This is a wonderful opportunity to help our neighbors, reduce the suffering of animals, and improve the area around the university. For all those people who have asked us what can be done to help neighborhood dogs, this is our chance; in previous Big Fix events, the ratio of dogs to cats has been about 10 to 1. Dog people, please step up! Thanks.

Subject: Meet Crema

Hello, After months of trying to trap Crema (aka Mr. Obnoxious, Sir Wily Tom, and various unprintable names), I spent the last month S-L-O-W-L-Y luring him into a big carrier with dribbled bits of stinky tuna-mackerel cat food. Yesterday he finally went all the way in, and I was quick enough to slam the door. Off he went to Blue Cross for neutering, vaccinations, ear-tipping, and a microchip; he was returned to the feeding station this morning. He had a hearty breakfast and no kind words for me.
Crema is our 223rd success story, made possible by your donations. Thank you for your support.

Subject: Adoption Update

Good news: Noelle got her own family and home last Friday after less than a week at the Petsmart adoption center. We still have to find homes for Goblin and Frosty, and since there are no available slots at the Petsmart facilities, we'll be taking our act on the road.
This coming Sunday Frosty and Goblin will be at an adoption event at the Petco on 1604 and Bandera. These two kittens have been in foster care with the Lucios. They are, of course, healthy, well-socialized, and utterly charming. (I meant the kittens, although the Lucios are pretty darned nice too.)
Please share these pictures with potential adopters; we'd happily forego the adoption event if we could place the kittens in good homes before Sunday.
On another happy note, the campus cats survived the big freeze, in part because of all the extra rations they got. Thanks to all of you who donated food recently. And thanks to all of you for your support as we enter our seventh year of operation.

Subject: Noelle's Good Fortune

Happy New Year. In the first picture Noelle, our little post-Christmas surprise, was facing an uncertain future. In the second photo, Noelle is settling into her new digs at the adoption center in the Petsmart on DeZavala Road. The adoption program is managed by Stray Cat Adoptions of Texas, a fine organization that facilitates many, many adoptions. Given the number of cats needing homes, Noelle is one lucky kitten.
Now let's hope that the lucky adoption mojo carries over to foster kittens Goblin and Frosty. More about those fabulous felines later. Thanks for your support.
