Cat Spay Neuter Month

Good morning. Of the 29 community cats we fixed in January, these kittens are the cutest! The feline "season of love" has begun in earnest, so every cat we fix now will not be a parent later in the spring. Check out the attached poster to see what other organizations have planned for February. Spread the word-and thanks for your support.

Subject: Punkin & Weenie

Good morning. Last Halloween we trapped four kittens (and later their mom) at the Woodlawn Marianist Community. The feral mom was returned the WMC location to fend for herself; the kittens have been in foster care ever since--two with Susan McCarthy and two with the Lucios.
Susan has generously assumed responsibility for Tut and Damien's future, so that leaves us with Punkin and Weenie. This brother and sister pair are closely bonded but also interact well with the Lucio cats. They have been vaccinated and will be fixed in two weeks; they're about four months old, litter box proficient, non-finicky eaters, etc.
Here's the rub: Punkin and Weenie are still a little guarded in their interactions with people; they are NOT aggressive, mean, etc., just still a little unsure of human intentions. They need time, patience, and love-in a forever home. We can't keep them on campus, and the WMC folks don't want them. So please spread the word about these kittens; the right situation is out there somewhere for them. Thanks for your support.

Subject: For Paws Fixes Five Hundred Felines

A twelve-pound female named Ginormous is the 500th cat to be sterilized and vaccinated under the auspices of For Paws. We trapped Ginormous a block from campus as part of our ongoing efforts to provide free spay/neuter services for community cats. (We trapped six cats at the residence-five of them female.)
In addition to all of you wonderful supporters, we're very grateful to the following organizations for helping us along the way: Blue Cross Pet Clinic, SpaySA, Humane Society of San Antonio, Stray Cat Adoptions of Texas, San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition, Summerlee Foundation, Animal Welfare Society, and the San Antonio Area Foundation.
Of the 500 cats, fewer than 20 remain on campus, 111 were adopted, and the rest live in the surrounding community; none are reproducing. Thanks again for your support and on to 1000...one cat at a time!

Subject: St. Louis Kittens on the Move

Over the break, we moved the St. Louis kittens away from the front of campus and into the interior of campus (north side of Reinbolt Hall). How do you move a colony? Move the feeding station! We also have a discreetly-placed warm shelter for them.
Why did we move the cats? We wanted to get them away from the front parking lots; avoid possible access disruption when St. Louis Hall is renovated; and to make it easier on our cat feeders. A handful of folks feed the campus cats 365 days a year; keeping the feeding stations closer together saves time and energy. Reliable cat feeders are always welcome-especially on weekends.
The majority of the campus cats continue to dine at the Blume Library loading dock area, and Cien has his regular table at Subway. Thanks for your continued support.
