Subject: Homer & Minkie--Adopted Together

The theme this past week has been "All in the Family." We've adopted out four kittens to members of our St. Mary's family: a current student, an alumnus, and a faculty member.
In a wonderful double play, Professor Patricia Britton (Greehey School of Business) has adopted Homer and Minkie! These kittens were found separately on campus (Homer at VJ Keefe Stadium and Minkie in a box at the library) and now are as close as littermates. The feisty felines are teaching Trish's two sweet resident dogs how much fun life with kittens can be. One big happy family!
Thank you to our adopters for keeping it in the family. And thanks to our fosters and other supporters for all your help.

Subject: Milo Has a Home

Milo, one of the "three-kittens-in-a-box-dumped-on-campus," has his own home. The spunky orange tabby has joined Benjamin Factor and family where he's enlivening things for senior cat Petunia.
Benjamin is a St. Mary's alumnus and brother of our registrar, Christina Villanueva who adopted her For Paws kitten Opie in August, 2010. And that's not all: sister and former St. Mary's employee Myriam Wagoner adopted Bootsy, Daisy, and Rexy the same month. What a wonderful mix of family, St. Mary's, and feline connections!
Thanks for your support.

Subject: Mimi Gets a Home

Back in August, someone "gifted" us with a mama cat and three kittens in a box. Mama Mocha went to the Humane Society where she was quickly adopted. Her kittens were spayed/neutered last week and are now moving into their forever homes.
Mimi is making a new life with student Jasmine Brown and her family here in San Antonio. Jasmine was the first to spot the box of kittens and immediately wanted to adopt one. After waiting patiently for almost two months to claim Mimi, Jasmine reports the kitten was well-worth the wait.
A big thanks to Jasmine and family for adopting a For Paws kitten!

Award
San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition held its first awards dinner last night, and For Paws was recognized for our work as a campus Trap-Neuter-Return organization. About 80 hard-core trappers and other invited guests enjoyed a rousing pep talk from Express-News columnist Cathy Rosenthal, great camaraderie, and the satisfaction of seeing hard work recognized and valued. Now, back to trapping!

SA Mayor's Proclamaton - NFCD 2011
It's official: San Antonio recognizes National Feral Cat Day. We've come a long way, cat supporters! May this ceremonial action translate into true caring and concern for street cats throughout our city.

Subject: Meet What If

Recently we heard rumors about a black cat at Leies Hall, followed by students asking hypothetical questions such as "What if there's a cat at Leies" and "What if someone brought the cat to For Paws," etc.
After our assurances that For Paws helps cats, two students appeared at the library with a handsome black tom. What If is now neutered, vaccinated, ear tipped, and returned to campus. He is success story #653 and the third big tom (9.5 lbs.) we've trapped within a week. Thanks for your support.

Subject: Cien...Again!

Another storm, another Cien rescue. (It took both of us to haul Mr. Lard Butt to freedom after his latest storm-related misadventure-no more Subway snacks, please!)

Subject: Meet Biggie

Pat "Plant Woman" Helton trapped Biggie on campus yesterday, and the eleven-pound tom was soon at the vet for neutering and vaccinations. I released him on campus this morning, and he raced off toward a nearby street where I bet he has a home. He didn't get this big without regular meals!
Thanks for your support.

Subject: Meet Francis

Yesterday was the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. To celebrate, we trapped this handsome tom by the AACC. Francis was neutered and vaccinated yesterday and returned to campus today. He is the 650th cat to go through our program. Thanks for your support.

Subject: SALDF

A big For Paws thank you to our law school's chapter of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund for donating $460.00 from their calendar sale to the campus cats. We're grateful for every donation we get, but student support is really special. Thanks again to SALDF President Melissa Lesniak and all who participated in this fundraiser.

Subject: Fines for Felines

During October, all library fines will go to For Paws to support our cats on campus. Don't have fines? Donations cheerfully accepted! A big thank you to Dr. Palmer Hall, Library Director, for establishing Fines for Felines Month last year.
