American Indian Area/Alaska Native Area/Hawaiian Home Land Census 2000 Maps. C 3.275:AM 3. To use this DVD open the file "main.htm" in a web browser.
Block Maps. C 3.275:B 62/VI-T 00-BLCK-14-.../DVD. These DVDs contain zoomable PDF files of maps showing Census Blocks. They may be used on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Acrobat icon and then opening the desired state or place file, or by opening the file "main.htm" in a web browser.
Census 2000 Migration Data on DVD. C 3.275:M 58/DVD. This DVD requires special software and may not be previewed on the reserve CDs workstation. To look at a table of contents and instructions, view the file DVD_PRODUCT_DOX_final, which is available as a PDF, Word (doc) or txt file.
Census Tract Outline Maps. C 3.275:M 32/DVD. This DVD contains PDF files which show boundaries and numbers for the Census Tracts in effect for the 2000 Census. If the DVD does not run upon insertion, simply load the Adobe Acrobat reader (on all Reference area computers) and open the desired file. There is another DVD for the 1990 maps (C 3.275:M 32/2/DVD). To use it, open the file "main.htm" in a web browser.
Charting the Labor Market in 2005. L 2.134:M 34. This CD contains a single PDF file: chartbook.pdf.
Congressional District Summary Files. C 3.282/4:108,109. These DVDs require the special Census data engine, or other special software (such as a spreadsheet program) and therefore cannot be previewed on the Reference area computers.
Landview 6 on DVD. C 3.301:6. Mapping software for viewing Census, EPA and USGS files. The DVD requires installation of the Landview program and thus may not be previewed on Reference area computers.
Modified Race Data Summary File. C 3.275:R 11/2/CD. This CD provides racial data for all persons in the U.S. from the 2000 Census, where that data has been modified to meet the needs of particular data users. See the file TechDoc.pdf on the CD for details. If the CD does not run upon insertion, run the file LAUNCH.EXE on the CD.
Race and Hispanic or Latino Summary File. C 3.275:R 11/CD. Numbers of people by race and Hispanic origin for geographical areas down to counties and places. If the CD does not run upon insertion, run the file LAUNCH.EXE on the CD.
Redistricting File. C 3.275:R 24/DVD. This DVD contains basic population counts required for the Congressional redistricting process. It requires special software and thus cannot be used on the computers near the Reference Desk. However, descriptive files and documentation may be accessed.
Special Tabulation on Aging. C 3.281/2:V 1-D 90-TABS-08-STP 9. If this DVD does not run upon insertion in the drive, run LAUNCH.EXE. This will install special software.
Summary File 1. C 3.275:F 48/DVD. This DVD should run automatically upon insertion into the drive. If it does not, run the file LAUNCH.EXE on the CD. The "National File" version of this DVD is at C 3.282:2000/NAT. and contains some different tabulations. It requires the special Census data engine, or other special software (such as a spreadsheet program) and therefore cannot be previewed on the Reference area computers.

TIGER/Line Redistricting Census 2000. C 3.275:R 24/DVD. This DVD contains cartographic information of interest to people involved in redistricting. The plotting software to display the maps is not included on the disc, nor on computers in the library. See the file README.TXT for details.
Census of Population & Housing STF 3A Data. C 3.282/2:CD-90-3A- . Detailed population and housing data (from long-form questionnaires) for States and subareas down to block group level.
Block Statistics. C 3.282:CD 90-1B- . Some population data to block level. There are no maps with this data; you must know boundaries and block numbers to use effectively. Documentation on Reserve with CD.
Census of Population & Housing STF 1C Data. C 3.282:990-1C. U.S. summary, larger geographic areas. Data is in DBase format.

TIGER/Census Tract Street Index. C 3.279/2:DVD-TRG 2000-CTSI-V 4. This DVD provides street name-to-Census Tract number correspondence for the 1990 Census Tracts.
American Community Survey. C 3.297: 998 (later data is on the Census Bureau web site). This new Census survey is designed to make more current data available in between decennial censuses by covering cities on a rotating schedule. More cities will be available with each new edition. It requires the installation of special software, which is on the CD. It may not be previewed at the Reference area computers.
American Housing Survey. 1988-93, 1997. C 3.215/19: . There are three CDs and they may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk. The 1988-92 CD contains microdata which requires special software not available on Reference area computers; the 1989-93 CD contains huge ASCII files that are unmanageable on the Reference area computers. The 1997 CD does contain a file called ABOUTAHS.PDF which may be viewed using Adobe Acrobat. The remainder of the information on the 1997 CD requires SAS to view or is in huge ASCII files.
Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal 100-Percent Summary File. C 3.275:SU 6/CD. This CD requires special software and cannot be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk. There are some PDF files which can be viewed with Adobe Acrobat.
Census Mapper. C 3.275: EX 7/CD. This CD is designed to create custom map products. It requires special software which is not installed on the computers near the Reference Desk and thus may not be previewed there.
Public Law 94-171 Redistricting Data. 1998. C 3.275:D 81/ . These CDs contain information for a few "dress rehearsal" locations in California, Wisconsin and South Carolina. They require database and other special software and may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk.
Social and Demographic Characteristics of the U.S. Population. C 3.275:C 37. Many of the reports on this CD are in Adobe Acrobat format and can be viewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; some data tables require Beyond 20/20 software, which is not loaded on the workstation. To view what you can on computers near the Reference Desk, choose RUN fromt he START menu and run E:SOCDEM.EXE.
Statistical Abstract. 1994-2007. C 3.134/7: Extensive paper holdings are in the Documents Stacks at C 3. 134: The latest edition is online at the Census Bureau website. The 1995-2000 editions can also be viewed at the Census Bureau. The 1994 CD may be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk by choosing RUN from the START menu and running E:GO.BAT. This will load the searching software Textware Lite. 1995-1998 may be previewed by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon. Open the file E:WELCOME.PDF on each CD to display the title page and links to content. The 1995 and 1996 CDs do not have internet links, as the later CDs do, nor do they offer an Excel download option. The 1995 CD's table index as displayed in Acrobat is not as useful as in the later versions. To access this CD using the Textware Lite software instead, choose RUN fromt he START menu and run E:GO.BAT. The 1999 and later CDs should run upon insertion into the CD drive; choose "Launch" from the main menu. If it does not run, choose RUN from the START menu and run E:LAUNCH.EXE. Or load Adobe Acrobat and view the desired file.
USA Counties. C 3.134/6: . 1996, 1998. Demographic, economic, and governmental information spanning several years and sources for county comparisons and profiles. To use the CD, run the file GO.BAT. There is an online version of the 1998 book available at the Census Bureau.
1997 Agriculture Census. A 92.53/56:997. The data and reports are on 3 CDs. 1A includes U.S. and state-level data; 1B contains county-level data. 1C includes state and county tables in PDF format. To use this CD, open the file E: README.PDF in Adobe Acrobat.
1997 Agriculture Census Subject Series. A 92.54:997/V.2/PT.3. Installation of special software is required to view some of the data, but other files are in PDF. To view these, open WELCOME.PDF in Adobe Acrobat.
1992 Agriculture Census. C 3.277:CD-92 AG 1 (Area series), 2 (Zip Code serie). Geographic data by state and zip code. To use, run GO.BAT for the "Area Series," or GO92.BAT for the "Zip Code Series."
1987 Agriculture Census. C 3.277:AG 8, 8/2/987/. There are three different disks with 1987 data. All of them may be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk, following these instructions:

1992 Economic Census. C 3.277:CD-EC 91-1,2,4. To use these CDs, run the file GO.BAT.
1997 Economic Census. Early editions of the CDs do not contain complete data. Each subsequent edition adds more industries, geographic areas, and reports. They require special software and therefore cannot be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk.
2002 Economic Census. Early editions of the CDs do not contain complete data. Each subsequent edition adds more industries, geographic areas, and reports. They require special software and therefore cannot be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk.
Consolidated Federal Funds Report. 1984-95. C 3.266/4: . These CDs may be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk by choosing RUN from the START menu and running E:GO.BAT.
Consumer Credit Briefcase. FT 1.34:C 86/CD. This CD runs upon insertion into the drive. It consists of PDF files.
County Business Patterns. 1994-98. The only CDs that may be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk are the 1990-91 and 1998 CDs. For this 1990-91, choose RUN from the START menu and run E:GO.BAT. For 1998, it will probably start when the CD is inserted in the drive; if not, choose RUN from the START menu and run E:LAUNCH.EXE. The other CDs use software which will not run under Windows 98. The 1997 CD has some PDF files which may be viewed using Adobe Acrobat.
EconN Report Series (Nonemployer Statistics). 1997-2001. C 3.277:C 1-3 01-NOEM-17-US1. This CD requires special software and cannot be previewed on the Reference area computers.
Export Administration Regulations. C 63.25:EAR/7/ . 2004. This CD may be used on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon and opening the file E:WELCOME.PDF. NOTE: exit the installation program which runs upon insertion of the CD into the drive.
Fixed Assets and Consumer Durable Goods in the U.S., 1925-2001. C 59.26:F 58/CD. This CD runs upon insertion into the CD drive. If it does not, open the file TOC.HTM in any web browser. Some of the files on the CD are in PDF, some are in Excel. There is an Excel viewer, as well as a copy of Acrobat, on the CD. Instructions for installation are with the CD. Note that installation is not needed on computers near the Reference Desk since these programs are already available there.
Fixed Reproducible Tangible Wealth of the U.S., 1925-97. C 59.27:925-97. There is a printed volume with this information for 1925-87 in the Documents Stacks at C 59.2: W 37/925-87. This CD requires special software and may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk.
Green Book 2000; A Guide to Federal Government ACH Payments and Collections. T 63.130:G 82/CD. This CD may be used on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon and opening the file E:WELCOME.PDF.
Gross Product by Industry for the U.S. and States. C 59.26:G 91. There are two sections: Gross Product Originating for 1947-97 and Gross State Product for 1977-98. The CD requires special software and therefore cannot be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk.
Income & Poverty. 1996, 1997. C 3.224/12-2: . These CDs may be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk through a web browser(or by running the NAVROAD browser program on the CDs). Under FILE, choose OPEN FILE. In the location box, type README.HTM, which will display the introductory page. Some of the files are in Adobe Acrobat, which will automatically load when one of these files is chosen, if Acrobat is loaded on your computer. Other files are in HTML.
Income, Poverty and Health Insurance: 1998, 1999. C 3.275:IN 2/CD. This CD contains data only, and requires special software that is not available on the computers near the Reference Desk for its use.
International Financial Institution Advisory Commission Committee Hearings. T 1.66:IN 8. This CD may be used on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon and opening the file E:WELCOME.PDF. Note: when tested, the "search" feature on the WELCOME page did not work.
National Income and Product Accounts. C 59.11/5-2:929-2001. There are printed volumes containing this information for 1929-94 in the Documents Stacks at C 59.11/5: . The CD is made up of PDF and Excel files access from an HTML index page. If the main page does not come up when you insert the CD in the drive, click on any browser icon. Under FILE, choose OPEN FILE. In the location box, type TOC.HTM to display it. The CD includes PDF and Excel viewing software.
National Trade Databank. The NTDB is no longer issued on CD. The information that has been on the CD is available on the Web at the Stat-USA web site. The subscription-only material at this site may be accessed in the Library, using a password available at the Reference Desk, but there is a great deal of free information at the site which can be accessed by anyone on the Web.
Nonemployer Statistics. C 3.277:C 1-E 00-NOEM 17-US-1. 1997-2000. The businesses reporting in this category are typically self-employed individuals, with no paid employees. Special software (included on the CD) is required to view the data.
Predictable, Secure Pension for Life. Y 3.P 38/2:13/SE 2/CD. Requires a Macintosh platform and therefore cannot be viewed on the computers near the Reference Desk. The Library does have a paper version of the title, shelved in the Documents stacks at Y 3.P 38/2:2 SE 2/2.
Regional Economic Information System (REIS). 1969-2005. C 59.24: . This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; they require special software. Much of the information on the CDs is also available at the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
State Personal Income. 1929-2000, 1969-2003. C 59.25: . These CDs may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; they require special software.
Survey of Current Business. C 59.11/1: . 1994-6. This periodical is available on microfiche on the Library's First Floor. The most current issues (and some backfiles) are at the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The CDs may be used on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon and opening the file E:CONTENT.PDF.
Survey of Income & Program Participation. 1987-88. C 3.275:SU 7, 7/2/CD. These CDs may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk. They consist of huge ASCII files that are unmanageable on the Reference area computers.
Truck Inventory & Use Survey. 1992. C 3.233/6:992. This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk.
TIGER CDs (Census mapping system). TIGER Line 1998 CDs (C 3.279:CD-TGR 97-1 through 7).
USA Trade. C 1.88/3: . USA Trade is no longer issued on CD. The information that has been on the CD is available on the Web at the Stat-USA web site. The subscription-only material at this site may be accessed in the Library, using a password available at the Reference Desk, but there is a great deal of free information at the site which can be accessed by anyone on the Web.
U.S. Exports, Imports of Merchandise. Monthly figures, searchable by commodity and country. The Library keeps only the latest Monthly disk, but historical CDs are also available that summarize data for 1989-2005. To use the historical CDs, run GO.BAT, for older discs. Newer ones run a menu screen upon insertion. Full functionality of the historical disks requires software installation. The monthly data now comes on DVDs which require installed software; therefore they are not viewable on the computers near the Reference Desk.
U.S. Exports Commodity Classification. C 3.6/2:C 73/3/2000/CD. This CD runs upon insertion into the CD drive.
U.S. Global Trade Outlook, 1995-2000. C 61.34/3:995-2000. This CD may be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon. Open the file E:README.PDF to begin. There is a printed copy of this publication on permanent Documents Reserve at the Circulation Counter.
Zip Code Business Patterns. 1994-2001. C 3.298: . These CDs may not be previewed on computers near the Reference Desk; they require special software. The data on the CDs is similar to that found in the paper County Business Patterns (in the Documents Stacks at C 3.204: ), arranged by Zip Codes. If the CDs do not run upon insertion, run the file LAUNCH.EXE.
NOTE: These CDs may only be checked out by St. Mary's users (or by other college students/faculty/staff with a Texshare card) or by special arrangement with the Documents Librarian. The CDs have been tested only minimally by the Library staff, and we cannot provide technical support in their use. The Reference Librarians can help you find a source for technical support, if that information is not given with the CD, or contact the Documents Librarian for further information.
These CDs are kept in the office, in filing cabinets in the Documents area, filed by Superintent of Documents classification number (given with each title). You might not be able to check out a CD if you come to the library in the evening or on a weekend when the Documents Librarian is not in. If you need to use a CD the best thing to do is to contact the Documents Librarian in advance and the CD can be left at the Reference Desk for you to check out.
