ADA Technical Assistance CD-ROM. J 1.100:AD 1/V.2/CD. Files on the CD are in HTML format. The index file is START.HTM.

Agriculture Statistics. 1994-98. A 1.47/2: . Data for all years is on one CD. The files are in PDF format. To use on the computers near the Reference Desk, click on the Adobe Acrobat icon then open the file WELCOME.PDF.  Agriculture Statistics are also available on the Web at the Dept. of Agriculture's site.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Resource Guide. TD 8.64:B 47/2. CD should run upon insertion into the drive. If it does not, open the file bikeped.chm in any web browser (Explorer 4.0 or higher recommended.)

Bicycle Safety Tips for Adults. TD 8.64:B 47/3/DVD. Play the file VTS_01_1.VOB in a media viewer.

Business Briefcase. FT 1.34:B 96/CD. This CD contains Flash and PDF files, and runs upon insertion.

China/Northeast Asia Collection. D 5.417/2:C 43/CD. This CD runs upon insertion and contains Flash and PDF files. Run ndu.exe if the CD doesn't run automatically.

Consumer Credit Briefcase. FT 1.34:C 86/2008/CD. This CD contains Flash and PDF files, and runs upon insertion.

Country Reports on Human Rights Practices. S 1.142:C 63/CD. 2001,2002. To use the 2001 CD on the computers near the Reference Desk, use Adobe Acrobat. The 2002 CD requires the installation of special software.

Creating a Nation of Learners: grantee communications kit. NF 4.2:G 76/2/CD. This CD contains files in PDF, Word and HTML formats. Contents are listed in the file CoverLetter, which is included in both Word and PDF formats.

A Creative Adventure/Una Aventura Creativa. HE 25.2:AD 9/SPAN.ENG./DVD. This DVD movie can be played with a media player.

Digital Nautical Publications. D 5.360/2:2006/3. The CD contains PDF files of technical publications of interest to sailors and others needing detailed navigation information, in various file formats.

Documents Relating to the Hearing on the Proposed Tobacco Settlement. Y 4.C 73/8:105-P/CD. Additional Documents Relating to the Hearing... Y 4.C 73/8:T 55/CD. 44 CDs. This large collection of CDs contains files in various formats, which are indicated in a general way on the front of the CD cases. Files in HTML may be viewed on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Netscape icon and choosing Open Page from the File menu. Select the file to display. Files in PDF format may be viewed by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon and opening the desired file. Most of the files are in TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) format and require a graphics reader to view.

Energy InfoDisk. E 3.60: . CD no.1 contains a variety of files relating to energy, primarily statistics. Most are in PDF format and may be viewed on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon and opening the desired file. There is no easily recognizable index or content file. An automatic Adobe Acrobat screen may come up when the CD is inserted; if this happens, simply exit the installation. CD no. 2 contains software for running various sections of the data, which must be installed. NOTE: the final CD edition of this title is vol.6, no. 4, 2001.

Español for Law Enforcement. J 28.31:T 68. This interactive CD must be installed and thus is not available for preview on the computers near the Reference Desk.

Federal Tax Products. T 22.51/4: . 1999, 2000. Current and past tax information products for assistance in preparing federal income taxes. To view these files on computers near the Reference Desk, place disk 1 in the CD drive, click on the Adobe Acrobat icon and open the file TitlePage_TOC.PDF.

FBIS Publications. PREX 7.10/3: 1996-  . Searchable collections of Foreign Broadcast Information Service documents, which are official documents and news reports from around the world. Because some of the material is on the CDs is copyrighted, downloading and printing from the CDs is not permitted. They also require special software (each CD must be installed separately) and thus they cannot be used on the computers near the Reference Desk.

HRCD (Human Resources CD from Personnel Management Office) PM 1.59/2: . To use the CD on computers near the Reference Desk, click on the Adobe Acrobat icon and open the file WELCOME.PDF.

Landscape Aesthetics. A 1.76:701/CD. The CD consists of a large PDF file: SMS_Handbook.PDF.

Marines in the Korean War. D 214.13:K 84/11/CD. This CD contains PDF files accessed from an web browser index page. If it does not run upon insertion, open the file index.htm in a web browser.

Military Intelligence Story; a Photographic History. D 101.2:IN 8/12/998/CD. This CD may be used on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon and opening the file WELCOME.PDF.

National Gambling Impact Study Commission. Y 3.2:G 14/CDS. These two CDs contain supplementary material to the Commission's Report, which can be found in the paper documents stacks at Y 3.2:G 14. One CD contains Research Reports and the other an ACIR Compilation of State and Federal Gambling Laws and Regulations. The material on the CDs is in a variety of formats that can be read on the Reserve CDs Workstation with Wordpad, Adobe Acrobat, Netscape or Excel.

Occupational Outlook Handbook. 1996-2003. L 2.3/4-4: .  Paper copies for the last several years in the Documents Stacks at L 2.3/4: . To use the CD, open the file WELCOME.PDF in Adobe Acrobat.

ONet L 37.25:  . OC 1/CD. This CD is connected to the Labor Dept.'s online occupational information database which takes the place of the old Dictionary of Occupational Titles.

OTA (Office of Technology Assessment) Legacy. Y 3. T 22/2:2 L 52/v.1-5. These 5 CDs contain copies of the publications of the OTA from 1972-95, when the agency was terminated. The files are in PDF format. To use them on the computers near the Reference Desk, click on the Adobe Acrobat icon and open the file OTA___.PDF (a year designation follows the OTA in the file names). The Library has a large collection of printed OTA reports. Most appear in the public catalog. The call number for the agency in the Documents Stacks is Y 3. T 22/2 : .

Peace Corps Language Coordinators Resource Kit. PE 1.13:L 26. Requires Macintosh platform and consequently may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk.

Peace Corps Presentation Kit DVD. PE 1.13:P 92. The DVD contains audio and video clips designed to be used in multimedia presentations about the Peace Corps. The opening menu page will run on operating system media players.

Small Business Tax Information Program. T 22.44/2:1466/997/supp/CD. 1997. This CD may be used on the computers near the Reference Desk by clicking on the Adobe Acrobat icon and opening the desired PDF file on the CD.

Summer Food Service Program PSA. A 98.24:F 73/SPAN.-ENG./CD. This CD runs upon insertion.

Trust and Terror: New Demands for Crisis Information Dissemination and Management. Y 3.L 61:15/T 76/CD. This CD should run upon insertion into the CD drive. If it does not, run the file NCLIS.EXE. A media player must be installed on your computer to run the presentation. NOTE: This CD is available for 14-day checkout; it is shelved in the regular documents stacks.

U.S. Academic Explorer. IA 1.32/2:ED 8. This CD gives information on U.S. colleges and universities for the benefit of foreign students seeking to study here. To preview on the computers near the Reference Desk, choose RUN from the START menu and run E:EXPLORER.

U.S. Foreign Affairs CD (USFAC).  S 1.142/2:4/1 (1990-96, 1993-98). These CDs contain a variety of State Dept. publications in may be used opening the file WELCOME.PDF in Adobe Acrobat.

U.S. Library Data Archive. Y 3.L 61:15/L 62/CD. This 2-CD set from the National Commission on Libraries and Information Science may be viewed by opening INDEX.HTML in any web browser.

U.S. Restitution of Nazi-Looted Cultural Treasures to the USSR, 1945-1959. AE 1.127:N 23. To use this CD, open the file WELCOME.PDF in Adobe Acrobat.

USIA Infobase. (U.S. Information Agency) IA 1.32:998-1. This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; it requires special software.

Virtual Small Business Workshop. T 22.69:V 81. This CD runs upon insertion in the drive.

Welcome to the United States; a guide for new immigrants. HS 1.8:IM 6/ENG./SPAN./CD. The entire publication, or broken up into sections, is available as PDF files.

White House Conference on Aging. PR 42.13:AG 4/CD. This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; it requires special software.

World Factbook. PREX 3.15/2: .1995-98. This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; it requires special software. The Library has a collection of World Factbooks in print from 1983 to the present in the Documents Stacks at PREX 3.15: . The latest is on Reserve at the Circulation Counter. The latest Factbook is also available at the CIA's Web site.


NOTE: These CDs may only be checked out by St. Mary's users (or by other college students/faculty/staff with a Texshare card) or by special arrangement with the Documents Librarian. The CDs have been tested only minimally by the Library staff, and we cannot provide technical support in their use. The Reference Librarians can help you find a source for technical support, if that information is not given with the CD, or contact the Documents Librarian for further information.

These CDs are kept in the office, in filing cabinets in the Documents area, filed by Superintent of Documents classification number (given with each title). You might not be able to check out a CD if you come to the library in the evening or on a weekend when the Documents Librarian is not in. If you need to use a CD the best thing to do is to contact the Documents Librarian in advance and the CD can be left at the Reference Desk for you to check out.
