If a CD or DVD may be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk, instructions will be given. Some of the information on these CDs may be available on the NASA Web site.  Please read this disclaimer and location information.


Apollo (Lessons Learned). NAS 1.86:AP 4/V.1,2/CD. This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; it requires special software.

Climatology Interdisciplinary Data Collection (CIDC). NAS 1.86:C 61/V.1-4/CD. This CD contains files in HTML. To view them on computers near the Reference Desk, open the file INDEX.HTML in any web browser when the Volume 1 CD is in the drive.

Columbia Accident Investigation Board Report, V.1-6. NAS 1.2:C 72/V.1-6/DVD. This DVD consists of PDF files and movies (requiring Quicktime for viewing) accessed through a web browser index page. To begin, open clickme.htm in any web browser. Paper copies of some of the volumes of the report are also available in the Documents stacks.

Compton Observatory; Surveying the Universe with Egret, 1991-96. NAS 1.86:C 73/v.1-2/CD. These CDs contain files in HTML. To view them on computers near the Reference Desk, open the file INTRODUCTION.HTM in any web browser.

Detector Development Laboratory. NAS 1.86:D 48/CD. This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; it requires special software.

EOS (Earth Observer System) Science Plan. NAS 1.86:EA 7/2/CD. This CD contains various files in PDF format. To view them on the computers near the Reference Desk, click on the Adobe Acrobat icon and open the chosen chapter. A brief table of contents for the chapters is printed on the inside cover of the CD case.

EOSDIS Sampler (Earth Observer System). NAS 1.86:EA 7/CD. To use this CD on the computers near the Reference Desk, choose RUN from the START menu and run the program RUNA4W32. When prompted, select the file EOS1297.A4R.

First Forty Years: A Collection of Selected Images. NAS 1.86:IM 1/CD. Instructions for viewing the images with a special browser on the CD are given on the inside cover of the CD case.

Gamma Ray Observatory (Lessons Learned). NAS 1.86: G 14/CD. This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; it requires special software.

Imagers. NAS 1.86:EC 4/CD. This CD contains files and images in HTML format for two interactive educational projects: The Adventures of Echo the Bat and The Adventures of Amelia the Pigeon. The view the files, open START.HTML in any web browser.

International Solar/Terrestrial Physics Program. This CD is in the Documents Office. It may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk;

NASA's Earth Science Enterprise. NAS 1.86:EA 7/5/CD. This CD consists of HTML files which utilize multiple media formats. To begin viewing the CD, run E:/cdrom/esex32.exe.

Remembering Apollo 11. NAS 1.86:AP 4/2/CD, /2004/CD. These CDs may be previewed on the Reserve CDs Workstation; open the file /START_HERE/START.HTML in any web browser. The 2004 edition contains PDF files.

ROSAT: the Images. NAS 1.86:R 67/V.8/CD. This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; it requires special software.

Selected Astronomical Catalogs. NAS 1.86:AS 8/V.4/997/CD. This CD contains HTML files with links to text files. To use it on the computers near the Reference Desk, open the file BOOKLET.HTM in any web browser.

SIR-C Education Program; Pre-Launch CD-ROM. NAS 1.86:ED 8. This CD may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk; it requires special software.

SOHO (Lessons Learned). NAS 1.86:SO 2/V.1,2/CD. These CDs contain Quicktime video files. To use them on the computers near the Reference Desk, click on RUN from the START menu and run E:SOHO1 (or 2 for the second CD).MOV.

STS-107 Tribute. NAS 1.2:SP 1/62/CD. This CD contains video and other files that can be viewed in most web browsers.

Techno-Agent. NAS 1.86:T22/CD. This CD requires a Macintosh platform and consequently may not be previewed on the computers near the Reference Desk. It is an educational game.

A Tour of the Cryosphere: the Earth's Frozen Assets. NAS 1.86:EA 7/6/DVD. This video runs upon insertion.


NOTE: These CDs may only be checked out by St. Mary's users (or by other college students/faculty/staff with a Texshare card) or by special arrangement with the Documents Librarian. The CDs have been tested only minimally by the Library staff, and we cannot provide technical support in their use. The Reference Librarians can help you find a source for technical support, if that information is not given with the CD, or contact the Documents Librarian for further information.

These CDs are kept in the office, in filing cabinets in the Documents area, filed by Superintent of Documents classification number (given with each title). You might not be able to check out a CD if you come to the library in the evening or on a weekend when the Documents Librarian is not in. If you need to use a CD the best thing to do is to contact the Documents Librarian in advance and the CD can be left at the Reference Desk for you to check out.
