Investigation of Illegal or Improper Activities in Connection with 1996 Federal Election Campaigns

The Blume Library has received all 6 volumes of the Final Report (and several volumes of the hearings) of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee Special Investigation into alleged election campaign abuses in 1996. Senator Fred Thompson (R) of Tennessee is the chairman of the Committee and the person most closely associated with news coverage of the hearings held as part of this investigation. The call number for the report volumes is: Y 1.1/5:105-167/v.1-6. The hearings volumes are shelved at: Y 4. G 74/9:S.HRG. 105-300.

Subjects covered in the report and hearings include Democratic National Committee fund-raising practices, John Huang's and Charlie Trie's activities and the Buddhist temple fund-raiser, among other objects of the Committee's investigations.

A comprehensive table of contents appears in each report volume (unfortunately, only with page number references, not volume numbers) but there are no indexes, either by volume or to the entire set. Some of the material included: some transcripts of hearing testimony, exhibits (sometimes in staggering detail, as with copies of telephone logs) and supplementary and minority views.

Hearings include a table of contents in each volume, statements by Committee members, transcripts of the hearings, and appended exhibits.
