Commemorative World War II Posters from NGA

The Library has recently received a collection of interesting and attractive posters that feature military maps and photographs from important areas and events of World War II. The posters were produced by the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency (formerly the Defense Mapping Agency) and are on display in the Library on range end-panels in the aisle between the Reference and Documents Stacks on the main floor. The posters may also be seen online at the the Government Printing Office Bookstore and may be purchased individually from that source.

The individual posters are, in order of their display, beginning at the front of the Library:
  • New Guinea
  • Southwest Pacific
  • Philippines
  • Luzon
  • Iwo Jima
  • Negros Island
  • Okinawa
  • Japan
  • Aleutians
  • Raid on Ploesti
  • Bombing of Berlin
  • Italy-Anzio
  • D-Day
  • France
  • Normandy Air Campaign
  • French-German Border
  • Battle of the Bulge

Here are some sample images of the posters, borrowed from GPO:
