This volume, oversized and lavishly illustrated, contains almost 500 pages of plates and descriptions of paintings and sculpture on display in the Senate. Although the reproductions of the paintings and the photographs of the sculptural items are of very high quality, the book is more than a pictorial record. It also presents detailed information on both the subject and the artist for each work, as well as data on the work's acquisition and a curatorial critique.
Aids to using the book include an index of subjects, index of artists, and an extensive bibliography.
