This two-volume report is an assessment of the nation's plants, animals and ecosystems which synthesizes new and existing information about the health of these species and systems. The information making up the report came from government agencies, both state and federal, universities and nongovernmental organizations.
Volume one contains chapters on general topics such as land use and climate change, and begins the regional reports which continue in Volume two. There is a separate chapter in Volume 2 on Marine Resources, as well as an appendix of more than 20 pages giving common and scientific names, a glossary and an index covering both volumes.
