Attendance: Pat Broome, Amory Irby, Myrna Langford, Tina Mesa, Tina Petimezas, Claudia Shaw, Ruby Wehmeyer, and Kathy Amen.
Some of our members who went to ALA reported on some news from the Census Bureau that the 2000 Census information will be distributed to depositories on CD only. We will wait and see if this manifestation of the paperless society does, in fact, come to pass. An interesting gadget that impressed several folks was a microfiche direct to computer screen reader. We felt that this would help alleviate the microfiche avoidance problem recently discussed on govdoc-l. Tina M. agreed with other reports posted on the list that the Marcive party was VERY entertaining and enjoyable.
Palo Alto is reorganizing in for their transition to their III catalog and in the process Camille may be handing the documents reins over to Tina M. Welcome to our group, Tina! In more news from Palo Alto, A & M will start offering courses there in the fall.
The question came up about GPO's new item surveys. A few folks think that they are only posted on the website with no paper notification. Can anyone clear this up? Do we need to be checking the website regularly for surveys?
The rest of the meeting was taken up by Kathy's informal demonstration of the full range of Marcive services that St. Mary's is currently getting through their TIF grant: weekly shipping list records, SuDoc labels, barcodes and full bibliographic records. If anyone (who was at the meeting or not) has any questions about these services, or wants Kathy's opinions on how they are working, send her an email.
Our next meeting will be held at Palo Alto College on February 25 at 9:00 a.m. Claudia can't host the following meeting on March 31, so she will look at alternate dates for TLU; perhaps a switch with SAPL for the May meeting?
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Amen, Secretary/Treasurer
