Attendance: Chris Anglim, Dorothy Blow, Pat Broome, Amory Irby, Tina Petimezas, Ruby Wehmeyer and Kathy Amen.
The meeting was mostly a news and information-sharing session. Items reported by almost everyone were an upswing in claims and higher item selection percentages due to the influx of electronic-only publications. On the first point, Kathy reported that she had emailed GPO about the unusually large number of claims she's been having to make since the first of the year (fearing a flickering bulb on her lighted bin!). The reply from GPO was that a long-time employee in that department had died suddenly and they were working to train a replacement. There might also have been some technical difficulties, since we recently heard about the shutdown and resumption of shipments. Hopefully the situation will be better soon. On the matter of higher selection percentages, it doesn't really matter since we don't have to make space for these docs, but Kathy noted to be careful not to go to a higher level of charging from Marcive, if you could help it.
Other announcements/items of interest:
Tina has updated and revised her SAC web pages, with a new logo. Take a look at: http://www.accd.edu/sac/lrc/librns/tina/dep.htm
Michael got a request from an alum for a Texas A&M study on the economic impact of Fiesta, made in the early 1990's. Neither A&M nor Trinity has it. Dorothy took the printout of his email to see if SAPL's Texana Dept. might have it. If you think your library has it, check with her or with Michael for the patron contact information.
Dorothy reported that SAPL's tax forms have not been as heavily used this year, probably because more people are getting them online. She reminded us that the downtown library has tax help on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 9-noon, until the 15th.
Wilson went to a week-long patent conference in Washington and will be sharing what he learned there at a future meeting of our group. (He was Highland-gaming today, and unable to attend this meeting.)
Dorothy and Kathy had gotten word from the State Library that they are making cataloging records for state depository documents available. Kathy has already asked to be included in the distribution of these records and suggested that the other state depository libraries do the same. The records are free if you don't want to have records attached in OCLC. Of course, interfacing between whatever files are sent from the State Library and our individual systems might be problematic, but if the records are free, we can learn to make them work.
Pat Broome is leaving us, moving to Oregon this summer (a good time to be leaving Texas!). So at our next meeting we'll be bidding farewell to her. We'll meet at SAC, 9:30 a.m., on May 3.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Amen, Secretary/Treasurer
