A general information swap constituted the first part of our meeting.
Welcome to Wilson Plunkett, who has come from Maryland to be the new docs librarian at SAPL.
Palo Alto has moved into their new building and Camille shared some typical new building horror stories with us, but is generally pleased enough with the new facility to invite us there for our next meeting.
Texas Lutheran was inspected in July and did very well. Claudia reported that the inspector, Gail Snider, was very nice and gave them good feedback on procedures, etc. The trigger in TLU's self-study that apparently brought the inspection was their problems with electronic access, most of which had been taken care of by the time the inspector came.
Kathy reported that her director mentioned that TexShare (a group we are all now members of, apparently) was talking about getting a BIG consortium subscription to Stat-USA, so we decided to put our efforts to get a CORAL subscription on hold, at least for a while. The Stat- USA people had responded to Kathy's inquiry about alternative rate structures by saying that they had to go by the number of internet licenses, not by geography. So a larger group deal would certainly be preferable.
No one is planning at present to subscribe to Marcive's web-based product. Kathy has had a demo and said that it is very nice, but at St. Mary's they are becoming leery of web-based access since there are so often problems connecting.
Trinity is likewise not pleased with their ProQuest Direct subscription (a full-text service). Ask Norma for details.
Myrna has found a contact person at the Comptroller's Office, Research Division, who will send copies of the San Antonio version of the Comptroller's "Gaining Ground" reports (a regional outlook). The gentleman's name is David Mass and his phone is: 512/936-5834.
After the "business" part of the meeting, we adjourned for a tour of Trinity's super-duper new bottom floor, which houses some book stacks and all of their multi-media collections and equipment. Everyone was most impressed by the facilities.
Our next meeting will be held at Palo Alto College on November 7, at 9:00 a.m. Look for a map to be posted at the minutes web page. Norma suggested we think about having an officers' election at that time. Dues were waived for the coming year.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Amen, Secretary/Treasurer
