Palo Alto College Learning Resource Center

Attendance: Dorothy Blow, Chris Fau, Camille Fiorillo, Duane Henricks, Amory Irby, Myrna Langford, Tina Petimezas, Ruby Wehmeyer, and Kathy Amen. Guest: Linda Payne-Button, from Our Lady of the Lake, who happened upon our tour and stayed for the meeting.

We all enjoyed seeing Palo Alto's beautiful new building as Camille gave us a great "cook's tour." What a lot of space, a lot of windows and a lot of color! We're all happy for the Palo Alto folks who now have room not only to turn around, but to grow.

There was some general discussion after the tour of GPO's Biennial Survey, especially the last question regarding a state plan. Kathy has already turned hers in, answering "I don't know" to the question. Wiser heads thought it might be prudent to find out if we have a state plan first. Amory did call Sue Troyan at the State Library Friday afternoon and she reports that we DO have a state plan.

Several members involved with cataloging held some discussions and show-and-tell concerning electronic-only records. Tina reported hearing something about some software that could be purchased that would allow a non-web-based catalog to hot link to electronic titles. She'll see if she can find out some more about it.

Kathy suggested that a valuable addition to our group's web page would be maps to each of our libraries. If you can bring a map to the next meeting, or mail one to Kathy, she'll scan them and link to them off our directory page. This should make an impression next time we're asked about "community outreach."

Linda asked about consortium possibilities for Stat-USA since they have a paid subscription and it's pretty expensive. We told her what we had heard about TexShare looking into it. She gave us some information about the new library to be built at OLL; it sounds nice.

Dorothy said that she, Wilson and Patricia were going to try to rotate attendance at our meetings. They will all try to make our Christmas lunch meeting; it would be easier if we didn't start it so early. We decided to try just starting at the Trinity Faculty Club and meeting as we eat.

Our next meeting will therefore be on December 5 at 11:30. Meet at the Trinity Faculty Club (Skyline Room). It is in their student center, just across the street from the Alamo Stadium parking lot (by the fountain). Here is the information on lunch prices from Myrna:

We hope everyone can attend.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathleen L. Amen,
Secretary/Treasurer
