March 31, 2000

Trinity University Library

Attendance: Pat Broome, Vanessa Burford, Amory Irby,  Myrna Langford, Tina Mesa, Tina Petimezas, Ruby Wehmeyer, and Kathy Amen.

The main purpose of our meeting was to ooh and aah over various new web-PACs (what is the consensus on what to capitalize, what to hyphenate, these days?), but we did have a short regular meeting beforehand, with some announcements and some discussion.

Wilson was unable to be at the meeting but sent word "that the San Antonio Central Library is now a Patent & Trademark Depository Library and will start receiving information and equipment very shortly." He has been to D.C. for a week of refresher training. This is a very exciting development for the documents community in our area, as well as for the city as a whole and we congratulate SAPL on this designation! Now local would-be inventors can do their patent and trademark searches here rather than having to go to UT, A&M or Rice.

UTSA has signed a contract with Endeavor for a web-based catalog. Vanessa, who is at the downtown campus, didn't know exactly when this would be happening but thinks it will be soon. She is also undertaking a large project to collect as many city documents as possible. Based on our efforts many years ago to get more city docs sent to libraries, we wished her the best of luck. If any of you have contacts in city agencies, she would be glad to learn of more folks she can call.

We had a short discussion of the Census, long and short forms, and the difficulties involved in the race question as it is asked. We're all wondering what the statistics will look like that come out of this "what race do you consider yourself?" Census.

After nice refreshments (thanks, Myrna and Ruby!) and the foregoing discussion, we adjourned to Trinity's instruction room where Myrna demonstrated both the Endeavor public catalog (called Quest at Trinity) and its cataloging module, which has many nice features. We also looked at TLU's Endeavor catalog and Tina P. showed us ACCD's III catalog (so many letters!), which is now operational. Thanks to everyone for these demos. Myrna and Ruby also showed off their processing area, complete with new microfiche cabinet.

Our final meeting of the school year will be held at SAC on May 5 at 9:00 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Amen, Secretary/Treasurer
