Attendance: Chris Anglim, Dorothy Blow, Pat Broome, Rhonda Davila, Amory Irby, Tina Petimezas, and Kathy Amen.
Welcome to Rhonda, new to the Docs Department at SAPL!
We all expressed concern (and a certain sense of deja vu) over the proposed draconian cuts in the GPO budget for the next fiscal year. Kathy agreed to recycle letters from previous campaigns and send them for the group to the appropriate Congresspeople. (As it turned out, a new letter needed to be drafted due to changed circumstances since the last letters. Tina stepped up to the plate and turned out another gem, which Kathy printed up and faxed to Appropriations Committee members from Texas (Henry Bonilla and Chet Edwards). When the bill was subsequently reported out of committee with the cuts intact, she then proceeded to send copies to the rest of our local delegation. The letters were sent over Wilson's signature as president. If you want to see a copy, email Kathy).
Rhonda asked about producing labels using the program developed to use in conjunction with the shipping lists. Here is the URL for the web page which summarizes Kathy's presentation on this topic at our January, 1998, meeting. We think the procedure hasn't changed too much since then: library.stmarytx.edu/acadlib/doc/sa/labpres.htm.
We briefly discussed a very non-flattering article about SAPL which appeared in a recent issue of Current. It may still be available online at www.sacurrent.com/. Dorothy reported that the Library has decided not to respond.
Rhonda is working on a display illustrating the history of the internet using some early ARPANET documents that SAPL has in its collection. We all thought the exhibit sounds like it will be very interesting and we urged Rhonda to submit it to the new collection of docs displays that Minnesota State U. is starting.
We wondered, collectively, if the Texas State Library would be putting on a program this summer. (Thanks to Amory, we have that information now! A meeting has been scheduled for the afternoon of July 27 (the day before the TLA general assembly). Time is 1-5 p.m. The place is yet to be arranged as the Library doesn't have a meeting room available on that day.)
A non-docs announcement: Our Lady of the Lake University Library will be closed for a couple of weeks at the end of May. They are moving into their new building.
We set the following dates and places for meetings during the 2000-2001 school year. Please let Kathy know if you are set to host on an inconvenient date, and let us know about times that are best. We can move dates around to some degree, swap out sites, or replace a site entirely if necessary:
September 22 - San Antonio Public Downtown (9:00 a.m.)
November 3 - Texas Lutheran University, Seguin
December 8 - Trinity (Christmas Luncheon)
February 2 - St. Mary's Law (if new director has settled in sufficiently; Academic if not)
March 2 - Palo Alto
April 6 - UTSA Downtown (we do remember Vanessa saying she wanted us to come, right?)
May 4 - San Antonio College
Everyone have a nice, relaxing summer!
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Amen, Secretary/Treasurer
