Trinity University Library

Attendance: Dorothy Blow, Norma Carmack, Camille Fiorillo, Duane Henricks, Myrna Langford, Tina Petimezas, Claudia Shaw, Ruby Wehmeyer, and Kathy Amen.

Several of our libraries announced important events. Palo Alto will be closed from July 19 until August 25, when they will open in their new building. Camille wants us to come out for a meeting there later in the fall.

Trinity is also doing some building, expanding into their basement level. The construction is supposed to be finished during the summer, and Norma expects the shifting to be undertaken in the fall semester.

Texas Lutheran hit the jackpot and will be inspected on July 14. No one else has received a call so far. In conjunction with concern about the inspection, Claudia asked for suggestions on CD storage. Several of us described our storage methods, with most of us using metal cabinets similar to those for microfiche.

Kathy passed out reviews of the Federal Depository Library Conference in lieu of giving a lengthy oral report. Handouts are indicated by number in the review; let her know which ones you would like to have and she'll send you copies. One idea that was planted at the Conference was to investigate the possibility of a consortium-wide "site license" for STAT- USA, the service that includes NTDB. Kathy brought copies of a memo she prepared for her director to take to the CORAL directors' meeting this afternoon to see if there is any interest on the part of CORAL to fund such a site license. In the memo, our group volunteers to investigate how much such a license would cost; it's not a straightforward issue since so many different institutions and internet domains would be involved. The group agreed that this was a worthwhile project to pursue.

We spent some time informally discussing internet security and scheduling issues. Librarians at the public library and at SAC have to monitor time spent online by patrons to enforce the time limits. Dorothy says that homeless persons are avid internet chat users at the downtown public library.

Kathy will be presenting a class at TLU on May 21 dealing with finding government information on the Web.

We feasted on a GPO-logo-adorned cake to honor Norma and wish her the best in retirement. (Although we found out that she might not be completely retiring but might return in the fall in a part-time capacity; good news for Trinity and for our group!) Tina presented her with a (also GPO-logo-adorned) T-shirt, and Camille brought her a nice plant which Dorothy decorated with some festive balloons. (Users' groups funds were used for these items.) We also had a T-shirt for Steve Sexton, who is leaving UTSA for a new job in Montgomery, Alabama, but he was not able to make the meeting.

We did not set a date for our first fall meeting. Kathy will be in contact with you in September when we will better know who will be able to host us.

Have a nice summer, everyone!

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Amen
Secretary/Treasurer
