May 7, 1999

San Antonio College Library

Attendance: Dorothy Blow, Jackie Crinion, Camille Fiorillo, Amory Irby, Tina Petimezas, Wilson Plunkett, Ruby Wehmeyer, and Kathy Amen.

Our most official act was the election of officers; we want to thank Wilson for agreeing to serve as President. Kathy will continue as Secretary/Treasurer.

We also set next year's tentative meeting dates, times and locations:

September 24 - UTSA - 9:30
October/November - TBA - presentation by Marcive
December 3 - Trinity (Faculty Club) - 11:30
January 28 - St. Mary's Academic
February 25 - Palo Alto
March 31 - Texas Lutheran (let us know if this is ok!)
April 28 - SAPL

Camille reported on their February inspection, which was triggered by their movement to a new facility, and which they passed, no surprise, with flying colors. The inspector was particularly impressed by their CD processing (they use 3M labels that cover the whole CD) and their use of the GPO "federal publication" stickers. Other news from Camille:  Palo Alto is still not officially linked with the A&M system, but it looks fairly certain. Camille, in her capacity as SAPL board member, is chairing the search committee looking for a new director; she likes the search firm that was chosen to do the legwork, as they specialize in libraries.

There is a state docs librarians meeting (to be structured similarly to the one last summer) tentatively scheduled for July 9 in Austin. We should be getting e- or snail mail about this soon.

UTSA is undergoing a major shift of their whole main floor, the last (?) phase of the project begun with the refurbishing of their reference desk area a year or so ago. Jackie hopes that all will be in place to show off at our September meeting.

The ACCD has decided to go with Innovative Interfaces for their new web-based catalog. Using TIFF funds, St. Mary's hopes to also have a web catalog before the end of the year and will also begin tapeloading from Marcive this summer, courtesy of the TIFF. Keep using those cell phones, everyone!

Job openings: Pat Haynes is leaving SAPL, so they have an opening there; and Norma's job at Trinity is being re-opened...again; SAC has a Reference/Group Instruction position open.

Thanks to Amory and Tina for the yummy treats and general hospitality.

Happy summer everyone! Hope to see you all in September.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Amen, Secretary/Treasurer
