Palo Alto College Learning Resources Center

Attendance: Dorothy Blow, Camille Fiorillo, Amory Irby, Myrna Langford, Tina Petimezas, Claudia Shaw, Ruby Wehmeyer and Kathy Amen.

About half of those in attendance had been to the State Library's meeting in July and we all agreed it was a good meeting, with updates on State Library initiatives, a chance to meet and talk to the folks there, and informative tours of several related facilities. Kathy brought the handouts that she had picked up at the meeting and on the tours for those who hadn't gone to look at. One of the best suggestions to come out of the meeting was the establishment of a listserv for Texas documents librarians. No one has heard of any movement on this idea, however. Another meeting will hopefully be held next summer.

Miscellaneous announcements and discussions made up the rest of our meeting. No one reports much in the way of patron interest in the Starr report, at least not in requesting the report from us. Kathy has been putting links to the report and to announced collections of related materials on her "in the news" page.

Web-based catalogs seem to be on the horizons, however distant, for several of us. Tina has created some web pages for the SAC site on various areas of her collection development responsibility. A docs page is next! Dorothy reported that SAPL's daily internet classes are a big hit, having to move to a larger room. Users need to sign up in advance. The only internet-capable computers on her floor, now, though, are the two in the docs area, and they are having trouble clearing them for docs patrons. We suggested that they put up a sign, or signs, stating that depository use has a priority, then maybe they can more easily get to use the machines to help people with docs.

Myrna had a couple of retention questions: the old SIC manual (consensus was that it did not need to be kept); and old TIGER CDs (consensus is that these should be kept, if they haven't already been discarded, since govdoc-l reported some items are on the old CDs but not the new ones).

In our final order of business, Tina was re-elected President by acclamation and due to lack of other volunteers.

Our next meeting will be November 6 at St. Mary's Academic Library. Kathy promises to be able to demonstrate the ERIC pilot project database at that time.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Amen, Secretary/Treasurer
