by Kathy Amen

NOTE: GPO has published proceedings of this conference.

The following links will take you to my full reports on each topic:

GPO Update

Marcive news

Preconference workshops (GIS and Website usability studies)

Session reports (sessions I attended):

Science.gov
Cataloging online resources
Showcasing rare, valuable and unusual documents
Discovering and managing older online docs
Public access CD-ROMS
E-Competencies
Using Census data--local product development
Designing documents training programs
Federal Trade Commission
Census 2000 DVDs

I also went to lunch one day with a group of librarians interested in state government information and found that a lot of people are in worse shape than Texas as far as distribution and organization of state docs is concerned (and some are in better shape!). One of them, Lori Smith, has edited a book on state information sources (our friend Daniel Cornwall in Alaska covered the Pacific Northwest for her). It will be published soon by Oryx Press. She also sent us information on a state documents discussion list. I plan to subscribe to it. If any of you are interested, I can forward your her message.

I have handouts from the following sessions that I did not attend. If you are interested in seeing any of these, let me know and I'll either make you a copy or send you the information for downloading a copy:

Census Bureau update (general info, different from the session on the DVDs referred to above)
Stat-USA update
Depository Reference without Walls or Parking
Social Security Administration
Public Promotion: Outreach: It Doesn't Have to Overwhelm You!
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: When Remote Storage is Your Only Option
Government Sites for Kids
Adobe Acrobat and Searching Techniques
Documents Data Miner 2
