NTIS Focus Group

from the Fall, 2007, FDLC

Several depository librarians attended a Focus Group on the pilot DARTS / NTIS database. DARTS / NTIS currently has 360 registered libraries. The database averages 16 visits per day.

Being self supporting, NTIS is exploring what type of pay model might work for depository libraries. Feedback indicated that librarians were concerned with the current restricted password access rather than IP recognition, that the archival content was not comprehensive, and that there was not a clear delineation of the current content of DARTS.

Librarians felt that more digital content needed to be made available to make a viable pay database. Other suggestions included partnering with Google to make content more widely known. [RW]
