Serial Set Management
from the Fall 2003 FDLC
The PowerPoint presentation we showed, along with speakers' notes, is available here.
Our panel presentation--"When the Serial Set Isn't REALLY the Serial Set: How selectives cope with Congressional Reports and Documents"--was surprisingly well-attended (considering that we were up against the Census Bureau!) and was very well-received. The panel consisted of seven librarians from various, mostly academic, libraries around the country. It was a great group of ladies and we got along famously once we finally met each other Sunday night. (The presentation had been put together totally by email.) We got lots of positive feedback (from even some famous Docs "celebrities" such as Grace York!) and felt like we presented a lot of useful ideas on how to manage this arcane collection. One really great addition to the program was the attendance of Virginia Saunders, the lady at GPO who has put the "real" Serial Set together for many years. She not only enjoyed the program, but also provided some insight into her work which was able to answer some of the audience's questions about distribution and binding of the reports.
