Trinity University Coates Library

Attendance: Dorothy Blow, Jeremy Donald, Camille Fiorillio, Amory Irby, Michael Kaminski, Tina Petimezas, Christina Ramos, Ruth Swan, Ruby Wehmeyer, and Kathy Amen.

We spent a little while in normal information-sharing mode before Jeremy treated us to a GIS program. The primary topic of discussion was electronic resources and records. Tina mentioned a link checker she has started using that works very well: xenu, found at www.viz.co.nz/xenu.htm. Kathy is working on trying to systematize getting all available 856s into St. Mary's OPAC and is looking for suggestions about how best to do this. Ideas: Documents Data Miner and Marcive's Documents without Shelves. For assessment of the public's use of such links, Kathy reminded everyone of GPO's service that will send a report of hits on their servers from your library. To register, go to the Library directory update page and scroll down to the bottom, where there is a form to fill out.

On other matters, SAC is working on disposing of the documents listed in their massive weeding project. And on May 21 there will be a special program at SAPL downtown celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their beautiful building.

We also set our tentative schedule of meetings for the next school year:

We then adjourned to Trinity's very impressive electronic classroom, where Jeremy went through an introduction to GIS which also included a fun demo of their mapping software. The powerpoint he showed us is available on Trinity's server: www.trinity.edu/jdonald/ppt/GIS-curious.ppt. He also sent us a powerpoint from the Computers in Libraries conference he attended, which dealt with web searching and web site design. Kathy has saved a copy of this file on St. Mary's server: Notes from Computers in Libraries 2005.ppt. It includes numerous links to more information on the topics covered. Thanks very much to Jeremy for sharing all this with us. (And to him and Ruby for the yummy refreshments!)

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Amen, Secretary/Treasurer
