Attendance: Jeremy Donald, Amory Irby, Michael Kaminski, Tina Mesa, Tina Petimezas, Christina Ramos, Ruby Wehmeyer, Rita Wilson, Devin Zimmerman, and Kathy Amen.

Welcome to two new attendees, Rita and Devin from UTSA. They are working with government information there and (eagerly, we may say?) awaiting the hiring of a new head documents person.

Most of the meeting was taken up with Kathy's report on the FDLC in Seattle in early April. See this summary of the Conference. NOTE: an addition was made after Kathy's report on May 5: a link to a summary of the GODORT program was added.

We also talked a bit about our city documents harvesting project. Michael has been busy and has sent Kathy several documents to store on the St. Mary's server and for cataloging. We went over the subject areas that have been volunteered: Michael (business/economics), Kathy (health), and Jeremy (environment). Tina P. volunteered for SAC to look for law enforcement documents and websites. If anyone else wants to volunteer to look for documents in a particular subject, let Kathy know and she'll forward it to the group.

On the other side of our electronic documents plans, digitization of old local docs, Kathy got somewhat discouraged about this from talking to GPO's digitization folks at the Conference. In order to do this right, with long-term preservation in mind, it would be a much bigger project than just scanning some stuff into PDFs. Michael's contact at SAPL also checked with the City Clerk and was told that old Council minutes could not be taken out for scanning. So possibly, some time down the road, some kind of funding could be secured for onsite scanning of these, and other, items.

Some miscellaneous news and announcements:

• Rita and Jeremy are both going to the Interagency Seminar this summer. We'll look forward to hearing from them about what they learn from this intensive series of agency presentations
• St. Mary's has a new series of pages showing the displays that we've put up in our tiny display area over the past year
• Michael has been working on a presentation for high school students highlighting government information; he thinks that as the presentation is developed further it might be a good basis for programs targeting other segments of the general public
• UTSA is offering a series of "crash courses" on government information areas such as statistics; so far reaction has been mixed but they hope with better marketing to get more students attending
