Trinity University Coates Library

Attendance: Jeremy Donald, Camille Fiorillo, Amory Irby, Azucena Rodriguez-Guerra, Ruby Wehmeyer, Rita Wilson, and Kathy Amen.

General discussion from attending libraries on two major subjects—

Weeding:

• UTSA wants to get rid of their paper patent indexes and Government Reports Index volumes; the consensus was that it's doubtful any other library will want them
• Trinity has some oversize oceanographic volumes that they're having trouble getting to a library in Fiji that wants them, because of shipping costs and bureaucratic requirements; we suggested they contact GPO to see if they could help
• Trinity also has discarded all of the printed journals that are duplicated in JStore (not exactly documents-related, but important)
• St. Mary's Blume Library is trimming 800+ item numbers, many of which are from "item number creep," but a significant title being dropped is the paper U.S. Code

Remodelings, etc.

• Palo Alto is going to undergo carpet replacement this summer, hopefully starting and getting most of the work done in May; they will remain open
• Trinity got a large number of compact shelving units to house print journals not discarded because of JStore
• UTSA will be undergoing a major renovation starting in May, and will remain open

Other general news:

• there are openings for various librarian positions at Palo Alto and UTSA
• Jeremy is getting married on March 15—congratulations, Jeremy!

Camille brought some handouts from the GODORT program at ALA Midwinter, which was about digitization. Jeremy also attended the session and was impressed with Rescarta, an open-source digital content management system.

Jeremy also called our attention to some cool popular culture videos that are on the Smithsonian Institution's website. We're hoping GPO will catalog the videos and make records available with links. Kathy remarked that NARA has lots of 1930s and 1940s newsreel videos that GPO has cataloged. The SuDocs number for these videos is AE 1.130/2: .

Our next meeting will be at SAPL on April 11, at 9:30 a.m. Dorothy reminds you to bring your parking tickets to the meeting and they'll get stamped for free parking. Kathy also asks that we discuss, at this meeting, plans for minutes and posting thereof next fall, when she'll be in London. She has emailed GPO to ask about the "groups" function on the FDLP Desktop, and will send out any information she gets on this possibility.
