How to Use netLibrary eBooks
What is netLibrary? The Blume Library has purchased about 50,000 fulltext searchable online titles from netLibrary, a commercial site that provides online access to a wide range of scholarly books and reference works. Many are available for access in multiple copies for a total of more than 60,000 online books. These books are all available to St. Mary's University students, staff and faculty. The full text is searchable at the netLibrary site and titles are available directly through the library's online catalog. An account is required if you wish to check out any of the titles.
How do I create a netLibrary account? Create Your Own Account
  1. From any PC on campus, go to netLibrary
  2. Choose Create a Free Account
  3. Enter your identifying information, including your preferred username and password
  4. Click Submit
  5. You may be asked to choose a different username if your username is already taken
  6. Creating an account automatically logs you into netLibrary
Use this username and password every time you log in to netLibrary
Can I create my account from off-campus? If you are off campus, use the EZProxy server to create your account. Once your account is created, you may login to netLibrary and access the collection from anywhere without using the remote access server.
How do I find a book at netLibrary? Basic Search

Basic Search allows you to quickly locate an eBook by searching full-text, keywords, author, title or subject.

  1. Select a Basic Search option from the drop-down menu top of the page on the netLibrary home page.
  2. Enter search term. Note: to do a phrase search, submit your search in quotes, for example, "to be or not to be."
  3. Click the "Search" button.
  4. netLibrary displays the search results.
Advanced Search
Advanced Search allows you to search multiple fields simultaneously, including title, author and keywords. The more information you enter, the more precise the results.
  1. Choose Advanced Search on the netLibrary home page.
  2. Enter search terms.
    • Text entered in the Title, Author or Keywords fields searches only the bibliographic record.
    • Text entered in the Full Text field searches the full text of all eBooks.
  3. Click the "Search" button.
  4. netLibrary displays the search results.
How do I check out a book and how long do I have access to it? Check out a book by choosing "Check out and Download this eBook Online." This gives you access to the title for 24 hours. You must be logged into your account to checkout books.
What does viewing an eBook mean? eBooks can be viewed in 15 minute intervals without checking them out. You will be allowed an additional 15 minutes as long as another netLibrary member has not requested the eBook.

To View an eBook:
  1. Locate the eBook you want to view.
  2. Click the eBook title to display the eBook Information page.
  3. Click the "View this eBook Online" choice.
  4. netLibrary displays the eBook.
Can I read an eBook offline? Downloading an ebook is available. However, after your checkout period, the download will no longer be available to you. To continue using your downloaded ebook, you must check it out again.
Is there a list of all the titles in the Library Collection? The list of titles purchased by the library is available here.
