What is a blog?

The most basic definition of a blog, or weblog, is a website with journal entries in reverse chronological order (most recent entries at the top of the page).

Setting up a blog

It's very easy to set up a blog. The easiest way is the set up an account with an online blog hosting site.Most hosts offer free accounts. Some offer paid accounts that don't include adds and provide extra features.

You can also install blog hosting software to run your blog. These type of blogs are called server-side or self-hosted blogs. It take extra efforts to install these systems.



Setting up a Blogger account

Blogger is a web-based blog hosting program. You can set up a free account and start blogging today!

We will set up an account in this session.

  1. Go to Blogger.com
  2. Register for a free account
  3. Name your blog
  4. Choose a template (control the "look" of the blog)

During the session, I brought the library's Bloglines account and demonstrated how to add feeds. The class worked on adding feeds to their Bloglines accounts.



Attracting an audience

There are millions of blogs on the Internet all competing for attention. Here are some tips to follow to attract readers to your blog:
