Creating Persistent Links to Databases and Articles
"Persistent Links" connect users directly to a library database or article by clicking a link embedded in a webpage. Persistent Links can be useful when creating syllabi, online bibliographies and Blackboard course resources.
Linking to a Library Database
Simply visit the library's About the Databases page and locate the database to which you want to link. "Right-mouse-click" on the database name, copy the database's URL, paste the URL into your webpage, document, or Blackboard course.
Linking to an Article
Several of the Blume Library's full-text library databases provide Persistent Linking capabilities at the article and/or citation level. Each database vendor employs a different linking strategy. The table below lists the library's databases that allow Persistent Linking. The table also leads to detailed instructions on how to create Persistent Links for each database (click the "Instructions" link in the "Persistent Links" column).
When creating links, be sure the remote access prefix (http://blume.stmarytx.edu:2048/login?url=) appears before the link provided by the database. This prefix is embedded in some databases and is not embedded in others. This prefix enables all StMU users (both on and off-campus) to access the material off-campus.
Please note that database content may change from time to time. Although article links may be persistent, it is possible they may not be permanent. For this reason, you are encouraged to test your links regularly and update them as needed.
